Babe in Woods: The McQueen Family featuring Baby A. | La Jolla Newborn Photographer

Do you know the song by Elizabeth Mitchell called “Who’s My Pretty Baby?”  I looooove that song.  I love Mitchell’s voice – it is simple and sweet and powerful.  As I was looking at the pictures of cutie-pie Baby A.  I couldn’t help but hum that song over and over again.

Oh, it was so, so fantastic to meet Kelly and Tre.  They are so sweet together and so sweet with Baby A.  They knew just how to soothe her, they knew her cues, and knew exactly what she needed.  Kelly is a natural, a total pro when it comes to mothering.  Isn’t she gorgeous?  Take a look at that smile – doesn’t it light up the world?  No wonder Tre fell madly in love with her.  I got to find out how they met, where they’ve lived, and where they’ve travelled (Kelly, I’m totally calling up when my family is ready to visit Cambodia).  I also found out that indeed it is a SMALL world.  Tre went to the same elementary school that my oldest son now goes to.  And check this out, his 5th grade teacher was my son’s teacher last year!!!  Crazy, huh?

Kelly and Tre, here are a few from Baby A. newborn session.

JinkyArt Workshop: Sneak Peek | San DIego Photographer

Gosh, where do I begin?  Well, let’s see . . . I’ve always loved photography.  As a kid, whenever we’d go to the library to check out books, I’d head over to the art section and grab a pile of  photography books.  Later, as music also became a huge passion, I admired the classic BW portraits of musicians such as the Beatles (the goofy Hard Day’s Night Shoot is among my faves) and was fascinated by the work portrayed on the covers of Rolling Stone magazine, namely by photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Mark Seliger, Robert Altman, and Jim Marshall.  All of them unique.  All of them inspiring.

I got to meet a unique and inspiring photographer this past weekend.  Barb Uil (aka Jinky) produces work that is delicious.  It is whimsical and magical.  I had the best time hearing her speak and present, shooting alongside her, and also working with 10 other fabulous photographers who attended the workshop.

This is the second to last shot of the workshop.  The sun was setting, the families were walking back to their cars, this lovely little girl turned around, and I clicked to release the shutter.

The S. Family in Point Loma | Point Loma Family Photographer

I have lived in San Diego for 8 years now and I am always amazed by the sheer beauty of this city.  One of the most beautiful spots in the city is the Point Loma Lighthouse.  You can get a gorgeous view of the ocean, the bay, the San Diego skyline.  This is where I met the Stevenson family for their family portraits.  I was a little worried that it’d be a bit overcast and cold – it has, afterall, been the coldest summer in 100 years.  But the skies were clear and a deep, deep blue.  Perfect for this sweet family.

First Grade | San Diego Child Photographer

Tomorrow, my little boy starts first grade.  He’s ready for it.  Has his clothes all picked out.  Packed his snacks for the entire week.  He’s ready, alright.

It has been a wonderful summer – time spent at the pool, time spent practicing piano.  Time spent with family – cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.  Time reading, and writing, and drawing, and playing outdoors.

Tomorrow, my little boy starts school.  He wants to see friends, he wants to learn, he wants to feel like a big boy and develop his independence.  So, today, I stole him away to take a few pictures.  All it took was a small bribe – an Odwalla bar.

Happy first day of 1st Grade, my love!
