Just one for today. Enjoy.

I met with the W. Family last Saturday. Hao, Min, big sister K. and little brother A. met me in Balboa Park on a beautiful morning. I had a great time walking around the park with them – looking for color, looking for places to have fun. At the very end of the session, I was talking with Min and Hao and explaining that I would contact them with in 2-3 weeks when their full portrait gallery was ready for them. Min eagerly said, “I can’t wait! I can’t wait!”
When Min and I were talking about the photo session, she said that her kids were growing up so quickly and that she wanted to capture their childlike cuteness. I totally knew what she meant. My boys are at this stage as well, growing faster than a weed, outgrowing their pants and shirts, their faces losing their baby fat, adopting new likes and hobbies. Some mornings, when I’m downstairs getting breakfast ready, they turn the corner and come into the kitchen dressed, teeth brushed and I barely recognize them – they’ve grown and metamorphosed so much in just a span of a few hours.
I’m going to start off with what seems like an outtake. But as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to not only keep it, but also feature it here on my blog as one of my faves from the session. This BW photo shows that K. has a GREAT sense of humor. She has boundless energy and a smile that lights up the world! Here she is pretending her hair is a mustache for Hao. It is obvious that she shares such a special bond with her dad. Hao has a great sense of humor, too, he played Kung Fu with A. as we explored Balboa Park. So funny! And you can see Min in the background, enjoying her daughter’s hilarity and how Hao plays along!
W. family, it was such a pleasure to meet you! I hope to see you again soon!

Today I have the extreme pleasure to share the work of yet another wonderful photographer. Kara Layfield from Kara Layfield Photography. I am so lucky to know her as a fellow photographer and as a sweet friend. Kara is an incredibly talented photographer who always wows me with her fresh style. The clarity and color in her portraits is phenomenal. But most importantly, in my opinion, her images always capture her subjects perfectly. I am ONE DAY going to gather up my lovely little family and visit my dear friend so she can photograph us!

Awwww, one of my fave families. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing the S. family 3 years in a row. They are so casual, so easy going, and they have a great sense of humor. And they share this awesome vibe.
The last few weeks, I’ve been going through my BW photography books and magazines that I’ve had for years and years. My collection started with the classic, BW Rolling Stone portraits. Then the collection grew with the work of Ansel Adams, Leibovitz, Cartier-Bresson and many others. So, yep . . . I’ve rekindled my love for BW. Because I’ve photographed the S. family 3 years in a row, I want to surprise them with a sneak peek of BW edits.

Today you will meet Taryn, the lovely, lovely Taryn who works wonders with newborns and little ones. She has the magic touch! I have to say that newborn photography is tough, tough, tough. But Taryn makes it look so easy. Here she is with her lovelies!
