My Photog Friends on Monday #15 | San Diego Family and Child Photography

How can it possibly be that I know so many rad photographers???  I love this girl!  Kathleen Weibel from Kathleen Weibel Photography in League City/Houston, Texas is so super rad!!  I met Kathleen for the first time a few weeks ago and could instantly see why she gets such amazing shots of families, kids, and HS seniors – she has such a great personality, people feel super comfortable in front of her lens!

The Gragg Family | San Diego Newborn Photography

Yeah!  Today is a happy, happy day!  I get to bring you more pictures of beautiful Baby Naya with her parents, Pri and Joel.  They’ve been waiting patiently, patiently, patiently for a few more pics of Naya, so I just couldn’t wait any longer to share with you The Gragg Family.

I visited with them 10 days ago, when baby was just a week old.  Ohh, my!  How I love this family, my dear friends!  It was such a great, great privilege to meet them in their home to help them document Naya’s first days.  Love you guys!

We’ll start off with a BW baby picture . . .

Look at her beautiful lips!

I’d usually process baby pictures a little bit more softly than my usual “color pop”post  processing.   Here are two pics so that you can see what my two processing types look like – you can see  how they affect the mood of the picture.  Which do you like better, the one on the left, or the one on the right?undefinedundefined
Together, Joel, Pri and Naya . . .

With dad . . .

Naya’s room was expertly outfitted by Pri, herself!  It is fun and bright and modern and stylish – just like Pri!

Kendra and Kevin’s Family | San Diego Child and Family Photographer

I really enjoyed photographing this family.  As you know, I tend to specialize in families with younger children and chasing after kiddos 3 and under is always a good workout.  The challenges with photographing older children and adults are a little different.  As children get older, they tend to give the camera a forced “let’s get this over with smile.”  And adults, adults often times feel a little awkward being in front of the camera anyway; I know this first hand – a couple of months ago, I got together with a few local photographers to exchange headshots and I felt like such a dork in front of  a camera.  Hahaha!

Kendra and Kevin’s family was very fun-loving and very willing to try anything.  My favorite images of them are those that show them having fun and being themselves!  They brought with them a couple of guitars (the guys are quite the muscians!) and found a horse for Kendra and Kevin!  Funnnnn!

Let’s start with a family picture!

Remember this image from last week’s Sneak Peek?

And here is a little different processing – a little vintage-y, a little hazy . . .

So, what exactly do I do to your pictures? #3 | San Diego Child and Family Photographer

Today, another installment of my post processing workflow – how I take a bland RAW file and post process it into my signature bold, bright style.

A few months ago, I posted the steps necessary for  a photo shoot from start to finish, from the first email communication, to the packaging of the final product - CLICK HERE to review that information.  And, a couple of weeks ago, I shared how I post process a backlit image.  If you missed that post, you can CLICK HERE.

Loved this family.  I swear, this little girl is the highest jumper I’ve ever met!  Look at how much air she’s getting!

I started by adjusting the White Balance (warmed up the picture), then I brightened up the midtones so that it would be more obvious where  the light was coming from and where the shadows should remain (you can see the sun was to “camera-right”).  Then, I added some contrast – I usually use “Curves,” darkened patches on the ground using “Levels” and as a final step . . . .  yep,  . . .  you guessed it . . . . saturated the color using “Soft Light”!  That is it!
