San Diego Child Photographer | It’s Valentines’ Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! Just wanted to pop in and share a few snaps of my kids hard at work making their Valentines for their school pals. It took them 4 1/2 hours to complete this project. Yes, 4 1/2 hours. Thank goodness for a rainy Saturday, huh? They cut, they punched holes, they glued, they made accordion folds, they laced ribbon, they stamped. Phew! Hard work, I tell ya!

I had some fun processing these snaps. As you may have noticed, these are not post-processed in my usual contrasty, colorful style. I thought a soft and airy look would be more suitable for these pictures since they were taken when we had an abundance of light in the house. Oh, how I love lots and lots of light. How do you achieve a softer, airier look? I usually decrease the contrast and play with a “curves” layer and add one or two layers of a solid color at a very low opacity level.

Oh! You may be wondering, “What is up with their hair?” They do look like little rockers, huh? Kidlet #1 is sporting the Liam Gallegher look circa 1995. While Kidlet #2 is rocking the Beatle bowl cut circa 1964. I’m sure one day they’ll be telling me how they want to style their hair. We might have dyed hair in our future. Maybe a mohawk. Dreads? One can only guess . . .

First {Photo} Blog Post of 2012

Wow.  It has been kind of quiet around this ol’ blog, huh?  I can explain.  Honestly.  December was super busy and fun in the Borgo household.  I didn’t photograph any families since I try to end all of my photo shoots in early November so that I can edit client images and print out their photos in time for the holiday season.  The Borgos were busy enjoying time together celebrating with family and friends the joy and traditions of the holiday season.

Oh, and did I mention we had some major home remodeling done.  My. House. Was. A. Mess.  I don’t know about you, but I really need to have cleanliness and organization in order to get moving and motivated.  So, needless to say, I neglected this ol’ blog.  But don’t worry – I’ll have lots of blog posts coming up in the next few weeks!

In the meantime, let me leave you with pictures of my two crazies.  These were shot with a fun fish-eye lens.  Happy New Year everyone!

Pintrest, Oh how I love thee . . . | San Diego Photographer

I’m addicted. What can I say?  Do you know about Pintrest?  It is a really cool site where you “pin” the stuff you see and like on the web.  Total. Eye. Candy.  It is like those collages you used to make when you were 12 years old, you know, . . . the ones where you cut out your fave things from magazines and glued them all together on a piece of paper.  A picture of Rob Lowe.  A pictures of cute haircut.  A picture of Bongo Jeans.  A picture of a hammock on a Hawaiian beach.  A picture of Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran.  But this is better!  Pin!  Pin!  Pin!

If you want to see some of my fun boards like “Rad Outfits for Kids” or “Great Places for Photoshoots,” just CLICK HERE and go check out my Pintrest boards!  If you aren’t a member and would like an invite, just leave me a message on the comment section below.

Happy, happy pinning!!

David Borgo | San Diego Portrait Photographer

Can I share with you a few images of one of my fave people on Earth?  Last week, I shared one pic of my hubby David Borgo, who is a not only an amazing hubs and dad, but also a super awesome, ridiculously talented jazz musician and professor at UCSD.  He is the talent in the family, for sure!

You can check out any of his seven CDs on Amazon, iTunes, or CDBaby.  The music ranges from straight-ahead to improv.  There is something there for everyone who likes jazz!  My fave song of his?  ”Oddity” from his second CD Massanetta Springs.  That song rocks!!!!  And it is awesome live!!

We spent a quiet Saturday evening on UCSD’s campus to capture a few images:

My Family on a Family Day | Coronado Family Photos

What did you do this past weekend? We spent it together as a family. We sometimes get so busy – soccer games, birthday parties, photo shoots, concerts, work, cleaning, laundry – that we sometimes “split up,” one of us tackling responsibilities, commitments, chores and the other one having fun with the kids. I loved our family weekend. Here are a few snaps . . .

NY, NY #3 (continued)

Do I love music?  Yes, yes I do.  A couple of months ago, I started a personal project here on my blog – a project that would showcase the work of talented portrait photographers who specialize in portraits of musicians and documenting performances.  Can I tell you a secret?  A little part of me would LOVVVVVVVEEEEE to photograph muscians, not just for traditional portraiture, but to capture their day-to-day while they are on the road, giving a concert, or just in their home.

So, when I got back to New Jersey after my adventures with Celina and Carolina in Manhattan on day 3 of my NY trip, I got to hang out with my good pal Alan Ferber, who is an amazing NYC jazz musician, himself!  Alan wanted to check out the summer concert event MapleWoodstock, grab a bite to eat, and buy his beautiful wife Jody (who is an amazing cellist, currently on tour with one of my fave artists, Esperanza Spalding) a nice present.  So, we headed out to Maplewood, NJ and The Smithereens were playing!  Remember them?  The band behind great songs like “Blood and Roses,” “A Girl Like You,” and “Behind The Wall of Sleep.”  What a treat it was to catch them live!  And, thank goodness I was toting my camera because I got these images during their first son:

How cool is that???
